88-year-old spin instructor can’t-stop-won’t-stop

Spin InstructorBob Mendelson started spin classes in his 70s because he wanted to know where all the pretty girls were going. He has lived an adventurous Forrest Gump-meets-Woody Allen style life and he’s as happy-go-lucky as they come.

He called me numerous times to rave about how happy he was with the article and all the response that poured in from strangers, distant relatives and childhood friends.

I love Bob! And that doesn’t happen with many of the people I cover, no matter how interesting their story may be.

However, Bob is an inspiration. He said that it’s so funny that he was just a regular guy living a normal life (although most will consider it extraordinary) and not really feeling great about his accomplishments. He’s hilarious but riddled with anxieties. He loved his career but he was an old guy very aware of how he fit into the world.

“But you hang around long enough and pretty soon people think anything you do is amazing because you’re still alive,” Bob said. “It’s wonderful!”
